Job Description Job Description BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION:
Performs a variety of duties oriented towards the preventative
maintenance of light, medium and heavy fleet apparatus as well as
maintenance on small equipment. This position performs Lube, Oil,
and Filter services, preventive maintenance inspections, field tire
removal and replacement, brake system inspections and delivers
apparatus to repair shops and various UFA locations SUPERVISION
RECEIVED: Works under the direction of the Fleet Manager Directly
reports to the Lead Mechanic SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None PRINCIPAL
RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs lube, oil, filter services and minor
vehicle maintenance as directed, on vehicles ranging from ATV's,
light fleet to heavy fire apparatus Maintain clean work area,
tools, and assigned vehicles Perform preventative maintenance
inspections on heavy, medium, Light fleet apparatus, and mechanical
equipment Establishes apparatus/vehicle service schedule and
communicates schedule to Fleet Data Administrator Works with the
Fleet Data Administrator to ensure accuracy of records Ensures
accuracy entering data into fleet management software including
creating work orders, tracking repairs and inventory control
Ensures the accuracy of inventory in UFA warehouse Completes DOT
pre-trip and post-trip inspections on fleet vehicles and apparatus
Drains the oil from a vehicle and refilling it to manufacturer
specifications Replacing air, fuel, and oil filters as required
during the service process Lubricating moving parts as necessary,
including those in the engine, and wheel bearings Lubricating all
chassis grease fittings including steering, drivelines, and rear
suspension Topping off other fluids, including brake, power
steering and windshield wiper fluid Inspecting the engine block and
underbody for leaks and potential issues Checking tire condition,
and air pressure adjusting tire pressure to manufacture
specifications Installing new parts, such as windshield wipers, and
batteries Inspecting and replacing cabin air filters as needed
Checking brake system and replace worn components as instructed
Performs tire removal and replacement when needed or as instructed
Check exhaust system for leaks Check condition of engine belts and
hoses to identify possible failures Drives many types of fleet
vehicles with both manual and automatic transmissions in a safe and
responsible manner. Utilizes different size/type hitches and safely
tows various size and types of trailers. Secures various types of
cargo loads legally before driving vehicles. Picks up and delivers
apparatus to/from repair shops, fire station and logistics Picks up
and deliver parts or accessories from vendors or other locations as
assigned May respond to emergency scenes to provide necessary
fleet/logistical support following established emergency protocols
and UFA policies Attends assigned training courses and classes
Performs other duties of a similar nature TYPICAL DECISIONS:
Determine the schedule for preventative maintenance needed for
different apparatus/vehicles Inspect and determine if equipment or
apparatus needs attention from a mechanic or other contracted
vendors. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of: Basic
light, medium, heavy apparatus, and equipment maintenance Basic
computer skills and fleet maintenance software programs Delivery
practices Warehousing practices Skills (or Skill In): Mechanical
aptitude Operate heavy apparatus Operate hand, electric and air
tools, and equipment Receive, store, maintain, and issues a variety
of equipment, supplies, and materials Customer service principles
Ability to: Read and follow complex directions as well as relay
information in reports Clearly communicate and make recommendations
Be a self-starter and complete projects with minimal supervision
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Utah Class B CDL (Must
obtain within 1 year of hire) Two years of experience in a field
closely related Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening
test DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Experience with fire apparatus and
related equipment Experience with servicing vehicles Mechanical
diagnosis and repair WORKING ENVIRONMENT Work is performed in shop,
fire station bay or in a field service setting. Can be exposed to
varying weather conditions. Work schedule is Monday through Friday,
routine hours; however, after hours and weekend work is possible.
Work activities vary widely including fleet maintenance, field, and
classroom training, attending meetings and frequent driving both
light and heavy apparatus. Work may include infrequent response to
emergencies. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS To perform the
job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the
essential job functions satisfactorily. Incumbents may be subjected
to dusts, gases, poor ventilation, extreme temperatures, workspace
restrictions, intense noises, and travel. This position also
requires the ability to bend, kneel and stand for extended periods
of time and to possess dexterity of hands and arms in order to
perform job duties. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable

This position requires the physical and mental capabilities to read
information printed on paper and displayed on computer monitors;
hear, speak, and communicate verbally using the English language;
cognitive thinking and mathematical calculation capabilities;
manual dexterity to manipulate standard office equipment, papers,
files, and records. This position requires occasional driving and
ability to exert up to 60 lbs. of force occasionally, and up to 20
lbs. of force frequently and up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to
move objects. Classified as a FLSA Non-exempt and eligible for
overtime. This position is classified as a Category B position
regarding Staff Vehicle Assignment and Use and Reimbursement. Job
