POSITION: Manager Operating Room
REPORTS TO: Surgical Services Director
POSITION(S) SUPERVISED: OR Circulator Nurses, OR Scheduling, CS
Techs, OR Techs, Orderlies
POSITION SUMMARY: The Operating Room Manager is a registered nurse
who, in addition to the duties of the perioperative nurse (see
perioperative nurse job description) is responsible for the
management of the Operating Room, C entral Sterile and OR
scheduling. The OR Manager is responsible for the management of the
OR environment to provide for the safety and comfort of the per i
operative patient. Ensures that appropriate Joint Commission and
AORN standards are met using Joint Commission and AORN guidelines.
The OR Manager coordinates the scheduling of procedures between the
doctors, anesthesiologists, staff and any ancillary team members,
taking into account age, health history and any psychosocial
factors of the patients. The OR Manager is responsible for the
staffing of the department, and makes appropriate assignments to
provide safe and efficient care of the patient. The OR Manager
coordinates the availability of equipment and instrumentation and
if needed contacts any company representatives for equipment or
implants. The OR Manager is responsible for cost effective use of
staffing, supplies and equipment and is responsible for the
education and training of staff according to hospital policy and
specific perioperative needs. He/She is responsible for any HR
issues such as, but not limited to, payroll, evaluations,
competencies, disciplinary actions, hiring, and firing. He / she
ensures that procedures are done appropriately and in a timely
manner, ensures that hospital policies and procedures are met, and
continuously evaluates and updates or changes these policies as
needed. He / she attends and participates in leadership, clinical,
and quality meetings and institutes changes or suggestions made at
these meetings. He / she ensures that proper policies are followed
to ensure the sterility of equipment and cleanliness of the
department. He / she ensures that all Infection Control policies
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
Maintains a current Utah Registered Nurse (RN) license. BCLS within
30 days of hire, ACLS within 90 days of hire, and PALS within 90
days of hire.
EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
oral and written communication skills. Bachelor of Science degree
Nursing (BSN) preferred.
EXPERIENCE/ JOB KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
Minimum of two years experience as a first-line manager preferred
as well as three years clinical nursing experience required.
Requires state regulatory agency standards related to health care
Cognitive and technical knowledge and the ability to progressively
manage care delivery across the continuum of care. The ability to
retrieve, communicate and present data and information both verbal
and in writing required. Must be flexible with work scheduling.
Involves discretion and
independent action within prescribed limits.
