The Postdoctoral researcher will work with Dr. Goodridge and the
National Federation of the Blind in their last year of the NSF
awarded SABER grant. They will be responsible to collect and
analyze qualitative and quantitative data and develop publications.
They will be expected to lead a team of undergraduate researchers
as well as graduate researchers to help do the same. They will help
in the development of grant to continue this research enterprise
forward and will be expected to help write the proposal that will
seek funding to do so.
1. Data Collection - Collect data concerning spatial thinking
and ability from the BLV community. This will involve a mixed
methods approach to quantitative and qualitative data.
2. Data Analysis - Analyze data concerning spatial thinking and
ability form the BLV community. This will involve a mixed methods
approach to quantitative and qualitative data.
3. Publication - Publish results from ongoing research in the
form of accepted professional JEE, IJEE, etc. journals and ASEE and
FIE conference papers. This is anticipated to be 2 to 3 journal
papers. Other journal papers may also arise.
4. Grant Writing - Investigate, conduct literature review,
co-author, and submit a NSF or equivalent level proposal for a
grant to continue spatial ability/cognition research as a member of
Dr. Goodridge's research team.
5. Develop Teaching/Service Experience - Lecture in Dr.
Goodridge's Statics and NFB summer EQ courses. Co-develop a spatial
ability course with Dr. Goodridge Leverage this course and the
Statics curriculum to create a BLV accessible course. Participate
in departmental functions.
6. Leadership - Lead a team of undergraduate researchers and
graduate researchers in the collection, analysis, and co-authorship
of journal and conference papers.
The candidate should have a Ph.D. in an Engineering discipline
or Engineering Education. The candidate should additionally have an
undergraduate degree in an Engineering discipline. The candidate
should have publications in the engineering education field that
may be reviewed by the hiring committee and can be used to evaluate
previous work. The candidate should have some teaching experience
in engineering or engineering education directed courses. The
candidate should be familiar with paper reviewing processes as well
as demonstrate capabilities to lead and develop publications in the
area of the post-doctorate work.
