Job Description:

Partnership with USU Teacher Education and Leadership Department and Cache County School District.

GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a federally funded grant program. Its goal is to increase college awareness for low-income students and their families and to help students develop the skills and preparation necessary to pursue education after high school. GEAR UP works collaboratively with schools, parents and community organizations to help students build the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to prepare for college. GEAR UP provides staff and funding resources in a comprehensive program that:

  • Helps students with academic, social and life skills
  • Reaches out to parents with college knowledge and awareness information
  • Builds community partnerships

ACA Variable Hours.

US Work Authorization is required.

Criminal Background check is required as a condition of employment.

Note: Employment is grant-funded and may end at any time.


  • Work assignments to be performed both online and in-person (provided circumstances permit).
  • Must be able to provide own transportation to assigned school.
  • Must be able to meet with students at school and at other locations, as needed, during normal working hours, and, occasionally, on evenings. May be required to travel to a 3-4 day, out-of-state conference once a year (expenses covered by grant).
  • In order to support students in progressing towards graduation and attending college, advise/mentor students one-on-one, with administration and staff, facilitate workshops, offer presentations, tutor students, conduct student recruitment, outreach, and success initiatives, utilize technology, attend trainings/meetings as needed, and other responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some college experience.

Minimum $12.00 per hour, commensurate with experience

The environment and physical requirements may change depending on the specific function of the work each department performs. Incumbents may be in both indoor and outdoor environments. Indoors, in an office space, event space, or public space are protected from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes. Incumbents may nearly continuously sit and often use repetitive hand motion (such as typing).
