Job Description:

The Applied Sciences, Technology and Education (ASTE) department in the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences (CAAS) at Utah State University invites applications for a nine-month, non-tenure-track Family and Consumer Sciences faculty member at the Lecturer level to begin in August 2021. Candidates for this position must have an earned masters degree in Family and Consumer Sciences, or another closely related field.

Estimated Start date is August 1, 2021

The term appointed Lecturer position will be 95% teaching and 5% service.

The successful applicant for this position will provide teaching excellence in the Family and Consumer Sciences Education (FCSE) and Outdoor Product Design and Development (OPDD) degree programs. The teaching assignment will involve undergraduate instruction for students in clothing construction classes as well as assistance with the functions of the sewing labs. Courses are delivered in face-to-face format; however, a remote form of instruction may be required if needed. Additional duties will include completing duties related to teaching include grading, recording grades, setting up for lab, cleaning up after lab, etc. Other duties and teaching related to clothing construction classes may be assigned as needed. The department also encourages scholarly or creative disciplinary contributions to academia, recognizing these contributions as a necessity for promotion considerations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned masters in a degree program closely related to Family and Consumer Sciences Education (completed by date of appointment).
  • Successful teaching experience.
  • Evidence of effective written and oral communication, as well as interpersonal, organizational, and team skills.
  • Ability and desire to teach and mentor college students in clothing and textiles at USU.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous employment and experience at a post-secondary institution.
  • Experience with educational technology and strategies.
  • Work or teaching experience within the fashion industry (e.g., fitting assessment, retail, fashion design, custom sewing, etc.)
  • Success in obtaining funding to support sustainable scholarly efforts.
