Job Description/Overview

The Malouf Photo Imager accelerates speed of photo deliverables, ensures the consistency and quality of those deliverables, and reduces lost time efforts across the company by ensuring files are stored in an easy understood, accessible manner.

This role is responsible for file cleanup, compositing of multiple images where necessary, color change/color correction and delivery of files for a high-volume commercial photo studio.

Master-level experience in Photoshop and extensive experience in managing a high volume of digital assets is critical. Experience in other Adobe products, Capture One, and work with 3D assets is also helpful. Some portfolio of before/after work in Photoshop is expected and candidates may be asked to demonstrate ability, particularly in regard to color change.

This role requires direct interaction with photo/creative, collaboration with other imagers, and regular input from in-house clients. The ability to understand, follow, and then improve and teach process are critical to this role. Other important skills include: critical thinking, the ability to prioritize need, and problem-solving. The ideal candidate will be self-driven and looking to improve and grow a wide variety of their own skill sets over time.

This is a full-time position. General schedule is 8am-5pm Monday - Friday in the office. Part time, remote, or student schedules are not available.

Responsibilities And Duties

  • Retouching/file finishing
    • General cleanup of files (wall seams, dust, etc.)
    • Responsibility for skin tone/background consistency
    • Composition of multiple images (in particular dropping exterior scenes out of windows)
    • Product color change
    • Color confirmation/consistency
    • Ingest of some exterior photo files
    • Management of resources
      • Effective use of outsourcing for appropriate tasks (paths, shadows, etc.)
      • Division of labor between self, other imager(s), outsourcing options and photographers
      • File Delivery
        • Most files need multiple crops and involve delivery to multiple places
        • This is process driven and critical to success
        • Management of current/future data storage
          • Understand and effectively use current folder structure
          • Work with appropriate end users to develop and share appropriate information regarding structure
          • Work to understand need and then make recommendation about potential Digital Asset Management system
          • Develop process and procedure
            • Document critical processes and procedures
            • Continuously research new options and refine process and procedures
              Qualifications And Skills
              • Minimum 5 years in retouching in commercial photo environment
              • Extensive Photoshop experience (experience in any related softwares a plus)
              • Extensive experience with organization/storage/management/archiving of large number of files
              • Technical skills: must be able to effectively (quickly and at a high quality level) finish and deliver a high volume of photo files
              • Technical skills: Color: knowledge of best color management practices, the ability to color correct/change product and develop/keep standards for known colors
              • Communication skills: ability to communicate clearly and effectively with photographers/creatives and with clients/end users
              • Self-management: ability to understand and adjust priority to meet larger corporate needs
              • Team skills: must be able to work well with others
              • Process/procedure skills: must be able to develop, improve, employ and teach process
              • Creative skills: ability to understand perspective and overall creative direction
