OverviewA transcriber trained in the Typewell Program provides
access to live lectures and class material in real time for Deaf
and Hard of Hearing students. A transcriber attends USU classes in
person and over Zoom and types out what is heard concept for
concept. This includes both the professors lecture and any student
comments. A transcribers schedule is based on student requests so
the hours will be consistent but not in blocks of time. There is
some schedule flexibility. The transcriber will report to a
supervisor and be part of the transcriber team.ResponsibilitiesA
transcriber provides speech-to-text communication access for USU
students during classes. A transcriber does this by listening to
what is said during a conversation, lecture, or presentation and
typing a meaning-for-meaning transcript of what is heard. A
transcriber must be able to attend classes in person and remotely
depending on the class type. The qualified candidate will be
trained in the Type Well program and must use this program with
competence.Qualifications
- Type at least 65 wpm.
- Pass grammar, typing, and listening tests to qualify for an
interview.
- Commit to four Fall/Spring semesters to qualify for the
training.
- Paid training to be completed by August 2022.As part of the
