What You'll Work On
CSI is seeking a qualified individual to work on research and
development projects including gas analyzer development and
validation, optimization of gas analyzer production processes,
laser-based trace gas analysis, and ultrasonic anemometer
development. We are seeking a creative individual with a strong
background in instrumentation to join our interdisciplinary team of
researchers and engineers specialized in these measurement
techniques. The successful candidate will contribute to this team
and help identify new opportunities and solve challenges of
bringing those techniques to the marketplace.
For this position, we welcome individuals pursuing academic
research objectives (graduate or postdoctoral) that can offer
crossover skills as a hands-on technician. Research opportunities
include measuring gas and energy exchange between the land surface
and the atmosphere using the eddy covariance technique. The
experiments rely on eddy covariance for measuring carbon dioxide,
water vapor, methane, nitrous oxide, and energy exchanges.
The candidate will work closely with engineering staff,
researchers, market specialists, and technicians that are attentive
to all aspects of sensor development in a highly collaborative and
engaging work environment. The ability to work constructively in
this group dynamic is essential, as are strong verbal and written
communication skills. The combination of specialty skills needed
for this job should not discourage otherwise qualified candidates
from applying if they lack particular qualifications. To a
reasonable extent, gaps in qualification may be filled with
training and mentorship on the job.
You'll Support Your Team by Performing the Following Tasks
- Participation in field research activities involving instrument
setup, maintenance, data collection, and field campaigns.
- Assist in the collection and analysis of flux data and subsequent
publication of findings.
- Prototype assembly of micrometeorology instruments. This requires
mechanical, optical, and electronic skills.
- Learn and follow standard CSI operating procedures for the design
process, manufacturing, and other operations.
- Create and maintain a strong culture in accordance with Campbell
Scientific's core ARCTIC values -- Accountability, Respect,
Client-Centric, Teamwork, Innovation, Continuous Improvement
- Fulfil work responsibilities under moderate supervision, in team
settings, as well as individually.
- Designs, implements, installs, and maintains hardware, software,
and installations. Monitors overall performance to proactively
identify potential issues. Performs root cause analysis on failed
components and implements corrective measures. Works with others to
establish and improve processes and procedures.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in a science or engineering field or equivalent
experience
- 0-5 years of experience
- Preferred to have general knowledge in the following areas:
- Micrometeorology and eddy covariance
- Gas physics, isotopic analysis, or gas flux analysis
- Application of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus,
statistics, and physics
- Electronic technician techniques
- Mechanical and optical assembly techniques
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
Much of the work is performed in an office setting at a computer or
in the production laboratory/workshop. Outdoor field work involving
lifting, climbing, and walking in moderate terrain is also
expected. Must be physically able to work in all of these
settings.
